Passing the Hat

At the Samhain 2019 BHS party, founder Gail Dettmar officially passed the black hat to Katrina Rasbold as the group’s new organizer. Katrina will plan and host the Black Hat Society of Northern California’s events moving forward.

Gail and Katrina have known each other for 20+ years and Katrina is honored to take Gail’s BHS group forward. Her intention is to continue to honor the principles and framework Gail put into place when she founded the group 10 years ago.

Black Hat Society of Northern California does not charge a membership fee. We accept donations from members to fund our parties, which occur the week before each sabbat. This is a social organization dedicated to providing its members and other interested parties with, well, parties! Our entire purpose is to network and socialize together as a strong support system representing the vibrant and healthy Northern California Witchy community.

We do not have a governing body, inner circle, or commercial interest. Our purpose is purely to come together in loving, fun support of one another to celebrate the holiday energies eight times a year.

Dust Off Your Hats!

Hello Everyone!

Apologies for the delay between events. It seems like EVERYONE has been going through MAJOR life changes this year and whew! It caught up with our old broom-sitting butts! But (the other kind of but) we are ready to get back into regular parties again, starting with a fun and appropriately spooky Samhain Party on October 19 from 1:00 – 4:000 pm (please note the time change) at Crossroads Metaphysical Store in Shingle Springs, CA. They have a large open and beautiful meeting area that is all ours for the afternoon.

If you are not familiar with Shingle Springs, it is only a quick 10-minute drive up Highway 50 East toward South Lake Tahoe from Rancho Cordova/Folsom. The shop itself is easy access from the freeway. It the parking lot fills up, there is additional parking to the side and next door at the Shingle Springs Post Office.

Please bring your fancy black hats and a food or drink contribution for the potluck. We will play games, talk, eat, drink, and visit together. This is a FREE event for members of the Black Hat Society of Northern California (original). People who wish to check out or join our group are also welcome to attend.

Please message Katrina at krasbold@earthlink.net if you have questions or reach out to Gail.

See you there!

SPELLING BEE! – OCTOBER 20, 2018 at LightWeavers

Hello Everyone! Katrina here on behalf of Gail Dettmar and the Original Black Hat Society of Northern California. (Please note that there is a Northern California Black Hat Society created several years after we were formed and we are not affiliated with them). I am here to remind you of our October 20th Spelling Bee, happening 3-6pm at LightWeavers Academy in Citrus Heights, California.

This is a social event to visit, enjoy light refreshments, hear presentations from Pacific Coast Spirit Watch, wear our Witchy finery, and share fun and magical time together. Why is it a “Spelling Bee?” Because some of the community’s favorite Witches are putting together spells for you to select as the Goddess and Providence guide you to do so. There is NO charge for this wonderful event, but if some of you enthusiastic bakers and cooks want to contribute to the refreshment table, trust me, we won’t stop you. All donations are graciously and gratefully received.

If we stomp our pointy-toed shoes and wave our feisty black hats high enough, we might even be able to get a speech from the woman who started all this back in 2010 (and informally in 2008), Gail Dettmar. After the Spelling Bee at 7pm, LightWeavers is hosting a séance, so be sure to check that out as well. There is a nominal charge for the séance, but not for the Spelling Bee. We hope to see you there!

A Message From the Founder

So Excited!!!  Time to dust off your hats, spruce up your broom, we’re off and flying again!

Thank you to all of you that have been replied one way or another to me to keep the group going and active again. To Katrina who has spent time this past week helping me and encouraging me, that “we all” can make this group come alive again, be full of fun and friendships old and new!

Please give a big thank you to Susan of Lightweavers, Hexeba and Katrina for the nudge and pushes I needed to get things going with our group. A last minute meeting of the minds and we got things moving.

A big thanks to Katrina who is doing up our new web page, getting our Instagram going and more. I’ll be reforming our facebook group.and with this and our Wacky Ole Witches we are going to have soooo much FUN.

More stuff planned for Dec and beyond!

Please be an active member… we need to set up some planning meetings, so if your interested in helping to plan our events and plan for attending other events as a group share your ideas of when, where, etc. and we’ll get something scheduled.

Remember this is a Not For Profit group, we may ask for donations to help with any expenses we will need to cover, if any, for events.

NOTE:  Although our Yahoo group is listed as restricted (it can’t be changed, I already checked) anyone can still join, they just need to let us know so we can add them (invite them) as members, it’s that easy. You members can also invite people to join through the group.

Its way late, I’m exhausted, time for bed. Will be posting more info every few days.

Magickal Blessings,

Gail aka Winter
